Smithsonian Institute  Award


The FAST (Financial Analysis and Security Trading) method of teaching finance which was pioneered by two professors at Carnegie Mellon University.  This method is built entirely around the FTS technology.  In May 1996, the FAST program received an Innovative Technology Award from the Smithsonian Institute.  It was described as providing an example of "visionary and innovative use of information technology."  This description, then and today, has been the driving force behind the development of the Financial Trading System.

FTS:  Evolution of Modules from the Tutors


The philosophy behind the development of the FTS Modules is to exploit technology, so that students of finance theory can apply abstract concepts to the real world with the same ease as working with a textbook problem. The first generation of this approach, referred to as the FTS Tutors (Bond Tutor, Option Tutor, and CAPM Tutor), when reviewed by the Journal Finance was described as making "a pioneering contribution to finance education." 

The current FTS System has been adopted by a wide range of the leading Business Schools Globally.  It is now used on a daily basis in classrooms and research laboratories at these leading institutions.  The feedback from these collective experiences is constantly used to further enhance the system.

  FTS:  Practitioner Recognition

The FTS Modules today are used by students of financial markets regardless of whether they are in school or in practice.  As a result, the software has received acclaim from practitioners in the field.  For example, Stocks and Commodities described Option Tutor as having the "...the power to take you where you want to go".  The set of derivative modules, available today, provide even more power.

An increasing trend is for students to want to continue using the FTS System after graduating to the field.  This is especially so because the system keeps abreast with the forefront of finance teaching at leading institutions around the world.  Current developments will meet these demands.
