FTS in the Classroom

Teaching Objectives:  With the FTS system you can run markets with price discovery with your students as the trading crowd.  In this way students learn important concepts from personal experience by viewing the problem from both a trader and trading support perspectives.  Our trading cases have been carefully designed to cover important concepts in finance applicable to fixed income, equities, derivatives and swap markets.  Each case is pre-specified in an Excel Spreadsheet which makes it easy for licensed users of the FTS system to modify any trading case to suit personal objectives.

The following case grids will help you match your teaching objectives to case selection.

Concepts by Trading Case Grid

Fixed Income Cases

Equity Cases

Forward/Futures Cases

Option Cases

Eurodollar Deposit and Swap Cases

Specific details for using the FTS system in the classroom, including a comprehensive Instructors Manual, is available in the "For Instructors" (see link on upper left side of this page) section.  This is available to all licensed users of the FTS system.

FAST I:  Fixed Income and Equities

Designed around the FTS Trading Cases and Modules students can learn, from personal trading experience as members of the trading crowd, how fixed income and equity financial markets work.  Three important issues are addressed: How do markets discover prices, what are the economic drivers of price discovery and how efficient are the discovered prices.  FAST I is designed around a sequence of FTS trading cases, that tie together the price discovery problem with each specific learning objective, to reinforce learning from personal trading experience.

FAST II:  Futures and Options

Designed to teach modern derivative pricing theory and application from personal trading experience.  Each topic progresses from a trading exercise in the FTS Virtual Markets, to learn important concepts, and finishes with application of the concept to real world markets using the FTS Modules.  It is well known that arbitrage is a powerful driver of price discovery but FAST II demonstates that arbitrage is a powerful driver of learning.

FAST III:  Market Microstructure

Designed around market structure, design and trading. The advanced FTS Interactive Market Software enables different types of markets to be conducted.  It puts you in control for conducting Call Markets, Continuous Double Auctions, Treasury Auctions, Pre-market Auctions with price discovery, Post Market auctions using closing prices.  Trade specific features are available in terms of margins, different dealing rights and more.
