Setting up a portfolio

When you first run the program, you see the following screen:

You can give a name to your portfolio; we recommend this because when you are managing multiple positions, it makes it easier to keep track of them.

Once you have defined a portfolio (see below), you can save it to a file, and retrieve it later when you want to trade again.

Cash

The portfolio always starts with 10 million in cash (see the section below titles “Program Defaults”).   If enabled, you can change this amount from the Securities menu item “Change Cash:”

It is recommended that you do this before you do any trades; otherwise, the calculated market values will differ from those before you changed the cash.

Securities

If you are using file-based trading then the set of securities are pre-determined; please consult the documentation for file-based trading.

Otherwise, you add securities from the Securities menu item “Add Security”.

This brings up the following window:

(The Edit Security menu item lets you change the settings of an existing security, while the Delete Security menu item lets you delete a security).

We now describe the information you must enter.
